| Standardized Test |
| The Stanford Achievement Test, Ninth Edition (SAT9) is given each year to students in grades 5, 7 and 10. The SAT9 compares Arkansas' student performance with the performance of a sample of students from across the country. The results are reported by percentile ranging from a low of 1 to a high of 99, with 50 being the average. These numbers indicate the school's average performance. [Psychological Corporation] |
| General Population |
| These figures include all students, except those students who receive special education services; those students whose first language is not English; and those students who recently moved into the district. |
| Combined Population |
| These figures are for all students, including students who receive special education services; those students whose first language is not English; and those students who recently moved into the district. |
| Arkansas Benchmark Exams |
| This number shows the percent of students scoring at grade level (at or above the proficient level) on the Arkansas Benchmark Exams. The exams are written and designed by Arkansas teachers for Arkansas schools. The exams are administered to students in Grades 4, 6 and 8. Results from the Benchmark Exams show how well a student is doing at a particular stage of the child's schooling. The areas tested are reading, writing and mathematics. [Data Recognition Corporation] |
| End-of-Course Exams |
| The End-of-Course Exams are administered to students at the end of a course to determine whether the student demonstrates attainment of the knowledge and skills necessary for mastery of that subject. End-of-Course Exams are given in Algebra I, Geometry, and Literacy in Grade 11. The numbers indicate the percent of students scoring at or above the proficient level in the area tested. [Data Recognition Corporation] |
| College Admission Test (ACT) |
| This number shows the average scores of high school seniors taking the ACT. The ACT score ranges from 1 to 36. Most public colleges and universities in Arkansas require the ACT as part of their admissions process. The average scores are for mathematics and English, as well as an overall composite score. Students have more than one chance to take the ACT. The scores reported here are for the most recent test taken by the students. [The College Board] |
| Attendance Rate |
| This number indicates the average percentage of students actually attending school on any given day during the school year. This percentage is calculated by dividing the three-quarter average daily attendance (ADA) by the three-quarter average daily membership (ADM). [APSCN Cycle 7] |
| Dropout Rate |
| This number indicates the percentage of students dropping out of school in grades 7-12 from October of one school year to October of the next school year. The No Child Left Behind Act requires that GED students be counted as dropouts beginning with the seventh grade class of 1998. The percent is calculated by dividing the number of dropouts in grades 7-12 by October 1 enrollment for grades 7-12. [Paper or APSCN cycle 2 - Student Dropout codes 04-14]. |
| Graduation Rate (also known as Completion Rate) |
This number indicates the percentage of students enrolled in grades 9-12 and completing Grade 12. The graduation rate for 2002-03 was changed to reflect the No Child Left Behind Act requirements to count GED students as dropouts beginning with the ninth grade class of 2000.
The graduation rate is used to track the progress of the same cohort of students as they enter the ninth grade and graduate four years later. The data elements for this calculation are accumulated over a four-year period.
Sample
Calculation |
| Step 1: |
Calculate dropout rates for each affected grade for each year.
Assume number of dropouts for 1995-1996 9th graders is 1 and that the Oct 1, 1995 enrollment is 56.
1995-1996 9th grade dropout rate is 1/56 = .0179
Assume number of dropouts for 1996-1997 10th graders is 2 and that Oct 1, 1996 enrollment is 60.
1996-1997 10th grade dropout rate is 2/60 = .0333
Assume number of dropouts for 1997-1998 11th graders is 4 [Dec dropout report] and that the Oct 1, 1997 enrollment is 54. [APSCN cycle 2].
1997-1998 11th grade dropout rate is 4/54 = .0741
Assume number of dropouts for 1998-1999 12th graders is 3 [APSCN cycle 4] and that the Oct 1, 1998 enrollment is 57. [APSCN cycle 2]
1998-1999 12th grade dropout rate is 3/57 = .0526
| Step
2: |
Calculate each year's completion rate.
1995-1996: (1 - .0179) = .9821
1996-1997: (1 - .0333) = .9667
1997-1998: (1 - .0741) = .9259
1998-1999: (1 - .0526) = .9474
| Step
3: |
Multiply all completion rates together.
(.9821)(.9667)(.9259)(.9474) = .8328
| Step
4: |
Multiply the results in Step 3 by 100.
(.8328)(100) = 83.3% graduation rate
| College Remediation Rate |
| This number indicates the percentage of freshmen entering an Arkansas college or university that are required to take at least one remedial class based on an ACT sub-score of less than 19 in either English, mathematics or reading. It is important to note that this rate does not include students who attend colleges or universities outside Arkansas or Arkansas private institutions. [Department of Higher Education]. |
| October 1 Enrollment |
| This number indicates the number of students enrolled on October 1. [APSCN Cycle 2] |
| School Discipline Percentage |
| This notation serves as verification that discipline policies have been filed with the Arkansas Department of Education. The number shown for expulsions indicates the percentage of students who have been expelled from school during the school year. The expulsion percentage is calculated by dividing the number of expulsions [APSCN cycle 7, Discipline Action Taken codes 03, 04] by the October 1 enrollment. [APSCN cycle 2]. |
| School Safety Percentages |
| These numbers indicate the percentage of safety-related incidents involving students that occurred at the school during the school year. This includes cases involving students possessing weapons, students assaulting school staff members and students assaulting other students. The percent is calculated by dividing the number of safety incidents [ASPCN cycle 7]--weapon incidents (Discipline Infraction codes 07, 08, 09, 10, 11, 16); staff assaults (Discipline Infraction code 06); and student assaults (Discipline Infraction code 05)--by the October 1 enrollment. [APSCN cycle 2]. |
| Demographics/Teaching Staff |
| Percent Staff Completely Certified |
| This number indicates the percentage of teachers at the school who have a valid Arkansas teaching license and teach in the area(s) for which they hold the license. This percentage represents teachers who are teaching in areas for which they are completely qualified. Completely qualified teachers are those who have not received a citation from the Standards Assurance Unit of ADE. The percentage is calculated by subtracting the number of teachers not completely qualified for their assignments [APSCN cycle 2 adjusted by ADE Exception Report changes] from the total number of teachers [APSCN cycle 2] and dividing the answer by the total number of teachers. |
| Percent of Students Eligible for Free and Reduced-price Meals |
| This number indicates the percentage of students at the school eligible to receive free and reduced-price lunches. The percent is calculated by dividing the number of students eligible for free and reduced meals [ADE Child Nutrition Unit] by the October 1 enrollment. [APSCN Cycle 2] |
| District Taxpayer Investment |
| The district's millage rate is the tax rate approved for the district by the voters in the last annual school election. The district expenditure per student shows how much money the district spends for each student. The district's average teacher salary figure shows the average annual salary of the teachers. [Annual Statistical Report (ASR)]. |
| District Total Mills Voted |
| This indicator represents the approved tax rate. [ASR] |
